Q: After sitting shiva for my mother, we
had so much food left over, it seemed a waste
to throw it away. I was told you cannot take
food from a house of shiva for personal use.
Is there an alternative?

GOLDSCHMID, 76, of West
Bloomfield and Sunrise,
Fla., died May 18,
2004 in California.
Born in Sevlus,
Czechoslovakia, she
survived incarceration
in Auschwitz. She then
went to Israel in 1946
and later moved to
Southfield.
She is survived by her husband of
56 years, Joseph Goldschmid; sons
and daughters-in-law, Dr. David and
Joyce of Redwood City, Calif., Drs.
Steve and Merilyn of Tucson, Ariz.,
and Robert and Ann of Victoria,
British Columbia; grandchildren,
Renee, Michelle, Josh, Rachel, Max,
Gavriella and Abigail; sisters and
brothers, Carmella (Aaron) Friedman
of Kfar Saba, Israel, Sheri (Yardena)
and Zoli Kohen of Farmington Hills,
Yitzak of Kiriat Gat, Israel. She was
the sister of the late Rachel Langbort
(Yehoshua) of Givataim, Israel.
Graveside services were held at
Hills of Eternity in Colma, Calif.
Contributions may be made to a
charity of one's choice.
BERNICE DIANE KATZ, 81, of
Bloomfield Hills, died May 22,
2004. She was a member of Temple
Israel.
Mrs. Katz is survived by her son
and daughter-in-law, Michael Katz
and Dr. Barbara Dutmers of
Colorado; daughters and sons-in-law,
Pamela and Dr. Richard Zakheim of
Florida, Stephanie and Frederic
Keywell of Bloomfield Hills; grand-
children, Noah Katz, Julie Keywell
and Timothy Giardina, Bradley and
Kim Keywell; great-grandchildren,
Jacob and Sarah Giardina, Chloe and
Casey Keywell; sister, Priscilla
Dickman of Southfield; brother-in-
law and sister-in-law, Donald and
Bernice Katz. She was the beloved
wife of the late Wilfred L. Katz.
Interment at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be
made to the Wilfred L. Katz
Memorial Library Fund at Temple
Israel or to a charity of one's choice.

FAYE RUTH RICE, formerly of
Bloomfield Hills of Pompano Beach,
Fla., died May 15, 2004.
She is survived by her husband,
I'm often called by families asking
what to do with excess food and baskets.
I contact many area shelters that really
appreciate these donations. The family is
pleased it goes to those in need and we
consider it a wonderful mitzvah.

LILA SCHNEIDER, 72, of West
Bloomfield, died May 22, 2004. She
was an antique jewelry dealer.
Mrs. Schneider is survived by her
daughter, Julie Levinson of
Farmington Hills; son and daughter-
in-law, William Schneider and
Frances Trail of Mason; grandchil-
dren, Ilana Levinson, David
Levinson, Ruby Schneider; sister-in-
law Abbie Schneider. She was the
beloved wife of the late Jack
Schneider.
Interment at Beth El Memorial
Park. Contributions may be made to
the Karmanos Cancer Institute.

ROSE SCHREIBER, 91, of Ann
Arbor, died May 20, 2004. She was a
teacher.
Mrs. Schreiber is survived by her

and Ralph Zilversmit of New York,

son and daughter-in-law, Dr.
Emanuel and Ann Schrieber of Ann
Arbor; five grandchildren; two great-
grandchildren; brother and sister-in-
law, Ben and Miriam Steuerman of
Illinois. She was the beloved wife of
the late William Schreiber.
Interment in New York.
