13131'0 Seeks Donor for New Conference Center

Michigan BBYO has had a retreat center, known as the Charles
and Florence Milan BBYO Conference Centre, in Belle River, Ontario,
for over 30 years. Our high school youth have used it well and
loved it. They go there for weekends with their advisors - two
chapters at a time - where they have Judaic and social
programming, run Shabbat services, cook kosher
meals, and have wonderful, memorable
experiences with other Jewish youth.
According to Whitney Aidenbaum,
Michigan BBG N'siah, "The retreat

experience is crucial to the philosophy of
BBYO because it allows the group to
experience Jewish life in a place that is independent of our own homes,
giving us the opportunity to establish our own Jewish identities. In our
home away from home, we have the responsibility of creating the Jewish
atmosphere ourselves, therefore encouraging us to grow as Jewish
adults."

The conference center is also host to Regional events as well.

New AZA and BBG Council Execs go there to plan for the
upcoming year at the beginning of their term in June. Newly-
elected chapter presidents go there for VIP Leadership Camp, a
week in August to gain the skills to do the very best job
possible. BBYO seniors hold their annual Getaway
Weekend there and freshmen and sophomores
participate in one of two Young Leadership
Conclaves offered each year to learn what
it takes to become a leader in their
chapter. The Milan Conference
Centre has become an integral part
of Michigan BBYO's success.
However, the Milan Centre facility is rapidly coming to the end of
its useful life! It is clear that the building is in need of major repairs,
and renovations have been extremely difficult because of its location
in Canada. In addition, traveling across the border with 40 teens
who must all remember to carry their birth certificates is always
continued on page 3
anxiety producing, especially post 9/11.
