The Barbara Ann
Karmanos Cancer
Institute and
Temple Israel's
Jennifer Tisdale
Kroll are offering a
faith-based support
group open to all
Jewish cancer
patients, survivors
and family mem-
bers. Kroll, a rab-
Kroll
binic intern, will
be ordained a rabbi on June 2.
N'siah: A Journey, will meet 7-8:30
p.m. for eight Tuesdays at the temple
beginning June 8. There is no charge.
Participants will:
• Explore Jewish beliefs and prac-
tices that can help one feel more in
control;
• Explore personal spirit building;
• Identify aspects of Judaism —
such as prayer, ritual and the belief in
God — which provide comfort and hope;
• Reframe negative thoughts into
positive ones;
• Be supported by others living
through a similar experience.
The group is led by therapist Brenda
Beron and social worker Patricia
Milner Sachs, both cancer survivors.
Sessions will also address topics
such as uncertainty, helplessness, lack
of control, the doctor-patient relation-
ship, treatment-related concerns, self-
and body-image, the effect illness has
on family, reordering life and personal
goals, social relationships and "Why me?"
To register, call Pat Sachs at (800)
527-6266 by June 4.
