MILDRED "MOLLY" SALLEN,
79, of West Bloomfield, died April
23, 2004. She was an accomplished
vocalist and a teacher in the Detroit
Public School System for 29 years.
She taught Yiddish and singing at
Sholem Aleichem Institute, where
she had belonged as a member since
her childhood and had also partici-
pated in its choir.
A graduate of Northern High
School, Mrs. Sallen received her
undergraduate and master's degrees
in education from Wayne State
University. Although teaching was
her passion, she had started her
career working for defense contrac-
tors during World War II and had
even helped in producing guns for
the war. An active Zionist, she had
belonged to Zionist clubs since her
preteens and Habonim since she was
a young girl.
A founding member and past pres-
ident of Sharona Chapter of Na'amat
(Pioneer Women) and a life member
of Brandeis and Hadassah, Mrs.
Sallen directed and starred in many
plays and musicals for Sharona
Chapter and Hadassah. For the past
15 years, she has also volunteered at
Brandeis, Fleischman Residence and
at the Holocaust Memorial Center.
She also taught Yiddish once a week
at the Jewish Academy. Mrs. Sallen
was a member of the Bel Canto
Choir and was also active with the
Jewish Music Club of Metro Detroit
and the Music Study Group of

Metro Detroit.
She is survived by sons and daugh-
ters-in-law, Alvin Sallen of
Birmingham, Michael and Karen
Sallen of Merion, Pa., Larry and
Nurit Sallen of West Bloomfield;
daughter and son-in-law, Aviva and
Dean Friedman of Franklin; grand-
children, Sarah, Emily, Teddy, Jacob,
Todd, Monique, Rebecca, Aaron,
Leah, David and Erika Sallen, Ari,
Joshua and Benjamin Friedman; lov-
ing companion of Ted Petok. She
was the beloved wife of the late
Theodore Sallen.
Interment at Machpelah Cemetery.

SUZANNE SCHREIBER, 41, for-

mer Detroiter of Huntington Beach,
Calif., died in March 2004.
She is survived by her parents,
Max Sol and Rhetta Schreiber; many
cousins in Michigan.

SARAH M. SNYDER, 97, of White
Lake, died April 24, 2004.
She is survived by her daughter,
Eleanor Snyder of White Lake; sons
and daughters-in-law, Jack "George"
and Edith Snider of Albuquerque,
N.M., Martin and Norma Snyder of
Carson City, Mich.; grandchildren,
Marcia (Gary) Cohen, Rochelle
(Bruce) Cherrin, Linda Levin, Erik
(Keren) Snider, Martin Jr. (Sheila)
Snyder, Rochelle (Robin) Hosak;
great-grandchildren, Robyn (Kirk)
Gold, Brett, Daniel, Matthew,
Rebecca, Ivy, Aaron, Elyssa and
Rebekah; great-great-grandchildren,
Alexander and Bradley. She was the
dear wife of the late Louis Snyder.
Interment at the Hebrew
Memorial Park Cemetery in Mt.
