Never could they have imagined the next time tiny Shay Celia's name would be in the paper would be as part of an agonizing plea for her life. Diagnosed with restrictive cardiomy- opathy, 13-week-old Shay needs a heart transplant or she will die. "Shay was sick from the time she was born," Adam said. "It was heart-wrenching to watch our little baby girl have trouble breathing and in pain," the Ziffs wrote in a letter posted on the International Association of Organ Donation (IAOD) Web site. Shay was hospitalized many times over the next two months, following breath- ing, eating and sleeping difficulties. • YANSI FUGEL, July 15th - 17th (Thurs - Sat) Please mark your calendar • Promises to be spectacular 248.626.0886 Inside Orchard Mall • Orchard Lake Rd. at Maple • West Bloomfield 836100 People who test drive a S aab usually buy • Get $ 500 in bonus cash when you take immediate delivery on any new 2004 Saab. 2004 SAAB 9-3 CONVERTIBLE $ 4 15* MUTATE REVERS E TREATMENT 36 MO. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, where she is on a ventilator. "Our little baby Shay Ziff was in a helicopter fighting for her life without her parents, as there is no room for non-medical per- sonnel," wrote the Ziffs. After Shay had open-heart surgery and a heart catheterization, the Ziff's letter read, "We learned the most devastating news of our lives. We were told that without a heart transplant, our baby girl will die." Then Shay's name was placed on the organ donor list. "We know that Shay's eventual gift will be the result of pain and anguish of other loving parents," the Ziffs wrote on the IAOD Web site. The couple have become advocates for organ donor awareness, sending 2,500 letters to physician around the country and countless e-mails describing Shay's condition. They have printed and dis- tributed "Donate Life" T-shirts. "We now wait every day for news, hoping that a heart becomes available before Shay's disease takes over her body," the IAOD letter read. ❑ 4256 Orchard Lake Rd.
