It is traditional to study Pirkei Avo4 the
Ethics of the Fathers, on Shabbat after-
noons between Pesach and Shavuot.
The Detroit area Conservative congre-
gations, in a joint effort with the Jewish
Academy of Metropolitan Detroit, will
host a study session led by students at a
different synagogue for five weeks.

Shir Tikvah Hosts Scholar

Congregation Shir Tikvah will present a
scholar-in-residence weekend, Friday,
May 7-Sunday, May 9, featuring Rabbi
Shefa Gold. She is a leader in ALEPH:
Alliance for Jewish Renewal and is the
director of C-DEEP, Center for
Devotional, Energy and Ecstatic Practice
in Jemez Springs, N.M.
Raymond (Rachmiel) O'Regan,
workshop and ritual leader, will join
Rabbi Gold for this event. O'Regan will
accompany her chanting with African-
style drumming and will lead a Saturday
evening drumming workshop.
Friday evening services will begin at
7:45 p.m., led by Shir Tikvah's Rabbi
Arnie Sleutelberg, featuring Rabbi Shefa
Gold.
Saturday's events begin with a medita-
tion workshop at 3 p.m., a 5:30 p.m.
potluck dinner, O'Regan's 7 p.m. drum-
ming presentation and an 8 p.m.
Evening of Chant and Havdalah for all
ages.
The weekend will wrap up with a
Mother's Day Ritual/Celebration for
adults, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
All events will be held at
Congregation Shir Tikvah. For informa-
