The back room has heavy
mahogany, artifacts on walls, heavy-
padded booths, hanging lamps, glass
dividers of etched glass that Les
Gruber had sent here from France, etc.
Seating in the two rooms is for 160
in a cozy and clean atmosphere ... and
Michael Quatro is at the piano on
Fridays and Saturdays.
The Caucus Club opened in 1952
and has mastered the elements of time
... Mary Belloni (pronounced Bellone),
a former waitress there, bought it on
April 12, 1992 ... Bartender Carlos
Alvarez, at the club over 50 years,
greets many familiar faces.

ditional menu items from years back
are still there ... Excellent filet of
Dover sole, beautiful tournedos of
beef (now called Steak Valez,)
Detroit baby back embers barbecued

sauteed fresh lake perch, etc. ... The
Pancho Burger, too, now called the
Caucus Burger ... and the great Jim
Beard's hamburger steak.
At the door as people enter this leg-
endary restaurant still stands the
English Beefeater gentleman statue
that has been greeting customers for
over 20 years.
Caucus Club is again proving its
strength ... as solid and sturdy as the
foundation of the Penobscot Building
in which it is located.
Still the fine dining legend that we
can proudly call our own.
EVER HAVE STUFFED green
pepper soup? ... Neither did I until
recently ... unless you want to call very
loosely stuffed green peppers served by
some restaurants soup.
Pepino's in Walled Lake has it a cou-
ple of times a month ... Very delicious
... In get, according to Kathy
Kwiecinsky, many of the homemade
soups at Pepino's are not found any-
where else.

Moreillon ... A guy walks into the
local welfare office, marches straight
up to the counter and says, "Hi. You
know, I just HATE drawing welfare.
I'd really rather have a job."
The social worker behind the
counter says, "Your timing is excel-
lent. We just got a job opening from
a very wealthy old man who wants a
chauffeur-bodyguard for his volup-
tuous daughter. You'll have to drive
around in his Rolls Royce, but he'll
supply all your fancy clothes.
Because of the long hours, gourmet
meals will be provided. You'll also be
expected to escort her on her over-
seas holiday trips. You'll have a two-
bedroom apartment above the
garage. The starting salary is
