Berg worked to change the oversight by creating the Jewish Women in the Arts Award honoring those who've made a lifetime commitment to the arts. This year, the fifth-annual award presentation will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield. The six honorees are Academy Award-winning filmmaker Sue Marx, artist and choreographer Carolyn Dorfman, glass artist Janet Kelman, gallery director Sylvia Nelson, musician Carol Solomon and arts patron Lee Hoffman (see adjo- ing story). The honorees were selected by a committee that included Berg, Deana Sperka of Oak Park, Melba Winer of West Bloomfield, Margo Cohen of Birmingham, Sonia Lipenholtz of Southfield, Ruth Adler Schnee of Southfield and Sylvia Nelson of Farmington Hills. The rest of group surprised Nelson when they chose her as an honoree. ❑ Sue Marx of Birmingham has won many awards including 20 Emmys. She is president of Sue Marx Films, Inc. and the Urban Communications Group, an educa- tional media foundation.
