OBITS from page 97 EDWARD CHINSKY, 81, of West Bloomfield, died April 8, 2004. He served as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. Returning from the war, he was recruited by the Haganah to fly for the Jewish air serv- ice in Palestine; he was sent to Panama to work as a crewmem- Chinsky ber of a fictitious Panamanian airline, whose real job was to ferry aircraft to Palestine. Mr. Chinsky was later among the first El Al pilots flying Gen. Yigal Yadin and his advisers to Paris for a U.N. meeting. After returning to Canada, Mr. Chinsky worked at Adelman's depart- ment stores while studying to become an accountant. He came to the Detroit area in the 1950s and worked for 30 years at Federal department stores in Highland Park, working his way up to the position of controller of the company. He and his wife moved to Florida and lived there for 24 years before moving back to Detroit. While there, Mr. Chinsky worked for Butters and Butters. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Eva Chinsky of Farmington Hills; daugh- ter and son-in-law, Debi and Hartley Harris; grandchildren, Joel and Clara Chinsky, Mychal and Erin Harris; sis- ters and brother-in-law, Leah Nickin of Florida, Rachel and Manny Moorin of Florida. He was the beloved hus- band for 50 years of the late Rochelle Chinsky; dear brother-in-law of the late Sidney Nickin. Interment at Oakview Cemetery.
