Council Announces Slate The Jewish Community Council of Metropolitan Detroit has announced its slate of officers and candidates to fill board of directors' seats. The election will be held at Council's annual meeting on Wednesday, May 19, at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield. Steve Silverman has been nominated to serve his second year as Council president and Wendy Wagenheim has been nominated as president-elect. Other candidates: vice presidents, Arline Gould and David Victor; secre- tary, Micki Grossman; treasurer, Judy Rosenberg. Nominees for three-year terms on the board are: George Cantor, Shari Cohen, Barbara Cook, Marla Drutz, Linda Finkel, Adam Forman, Carol Freedman, Gail Katz, Marjorie Krasnick, Andrew Meisner, Bert Schreiber, Marc Shulman, Deanna Sperka, David Techner and Robert Tell. Additional nominations may be made by petition signed by at least five qualified delegates from a Council member organization. Only one nomi- nee may be named in each petition. Petitions must be delivered to the Council office by Monday, April 19. Song Festival On April 25 More than 150 children will partici- pate in the Federation's Alliance for Jewish Education performance, the New Zimriyah! Featuring youth choirs from area day schools and congregations, the New Zimriyah! will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Temple Emanu-El. Admission is free. Light, kosher refreshments will be served. Participants include Congregations Beth Shalom, Chaye Olam, Shaarey Zedek and Shir Tikvah, Hillel Day School, and Temples Emanu-El, Israel and Shir Shalom. Sunday, April 25, 2004 9 a.m. — 4 p.m. at Temple Israel The ceremonial program of readings, music and candlelighting will be held 8 p.m. Monday, April 19, at Workmen's Circle Educational Center, 26341 Coolidge Road in Oak Park. The Detroit-area Workmen's Circle commemorates the April 19, 1943, uprising every year. The 60,000 Jews in the ghetto of Warsaw, Poland, with lit- tle ammunition or training, bravely held off the Germans for three weeks. There is no charge to attend.
