memorate Yom HaShoah at 9 a.m.
Sunday, April 18. At 11 a.m., there
will be a presentation on the city of
Arad, Israel:
Former Southfielder Susie Levin-
Abir is the mayoral representative of
Arad, located in the Negev just west
of the Dead Sea, next to Massada.
. Mrs. Levin-Abir grew up in
Southfield, graduated from the
University of Michigan and worked
in Los Angeles in television movie
production. She and her husband
made aliyah to raise their two sons.

we honor the sons and daughters of Israel, heroes who have given their lives,
as well as those who live on, with courage and hope in these dark times.

It is traditional to study Pirkei Avot,
the Ethics of the Fathers, on
Shabbat afternoons between Pesach
and Shavuot. This year, Detroit-area
Conservative congregations are car-
rying on this tradition in a joint
effort with the Jewish Academy of
Metropolitan Detroit.
Each week for five weeks, several
students from JAMD will lead a
study session at a different syna-
gogue on a selection from this
important work. These intergenera-
tional sessions are open to the com-
munity.
Sessions will be held at 6:30 p.m.
