Steve and Joyce Gerber of Ann Arbor,
honorary co-chairs of the JFS 10th
anniversary celebration committee.

Second Language, social services and the
youth and family services.
Ann Arbor residents Joyce and Steve
Gerber, co-chairs for the 10th anniver-
sary celebration, hoped people left the
event with more knowledge about the
organization they feel is one of the com-
munity's "well-kept secrets."
In addition to dinner and the Israeli
and contemporary music of Klezmer
Fusion led by Dr. Neil Alexander, guests
watched a video where recipients of JFS'
services were interviewed. And on each
of the 36 tables was a case study, names
removed, that asked people to think
about different situations and if JFS had
been able to help.
JFS was unable to help in about 25
percent of the situations, Steve Gerber
said. "The message we wanted to leave
there was that there's still work to be
done, and we need volunteers and
money to help the people we're not able
to.''
Abramzon attributes JFS' successes to
support from inside and outside the
Jewish community.
Outside support was shown by atten-
dance at the gala of Michigan politi-
cians, including U.S. Rep. John Dingell,
D-Dearborn; State Sen. Elizabeth Brater,
D-Ann Arbor; State Rep. Chris Kolb,
D-Ann Arbor; Washtenaw County
Commissioner Barbara Levin Bergman;
and Ann Arbor City Councilmembers
Joan Lowenstein, Leigh Greden and
Wendy Woods.
"This is really a celebration of what
community can achieve," said
Abramzon, "because this agency's really a
community. project. From the very
beginning when the needs were identi-
fied through the implementation phases,
it's been a community project, some-
thing this community can be really
proud of." Ell
