Aurora, an elongated form that seems to lift off the table, and Cocoon, a piece that offers a rainbow of colors." The work partners will be part of a group exhibit, "Virtuosity & Vision," which explores the relationship between the artists' skills, techniques and imagi- nation. Janet Kelman, who has her studio in Royal Oak, will open her doors to the public with Glass in Bloom, a showing of her projects in hot colors and a display of historic pieces of stained glass organized by Tom Newton. "I think glass is endlessly fascinating, and I will demonstrate some of the processes that lead to completed works," says Kelman, whose glass style also will be shown at Habatat. "I recently started working with a thicker material. I cut it into shapes and carve the surfaces." Kelman, who designed stained glass windows for Temple Emanu-El in Oak Park, will display some pieces that reflect her interest in snorkeling. She com- pletes many functional glass forms, including dishes and perfume bottles. Another affiliation for Kelman is Ann Arbor's Washington Street Gallery, which is run by a group of artists organizing a student exhibit for Michigan Glass Month. "Annette Baron and the Students at the Baron Glassworks" will include art by Jenna Werner, a senior at the Community High School in Ann Arbor. "I've loved art all my life," says Werner, who will be showing vessel forms in many colors. "I paint, draw and do metal work and have been using glass over fOur years." Werner, who became interested in glass at a summer camp in • Massachusetts, plans on furthering her studies at Washington.University in St. Louis. She has made plates that her family displays at their seders. "I find the process of making glass very meditative," says Werner, whose projects were juried into a show at the Ann Arbor Art Center. "My goal is to make each piece visually appealing. Besides enjoying what I do, I like to watch other glass artists because the work is so fluid." ❑ Jon Kuhn: "Sojourner:" Bar and Bat Mitzvahs Wedding Receptions Bridal & Baby Showers Graduations Corporate Events Reservations now being taken through 2005 This is a smoke and Liquor free environment %TN Call for details 248.689.2494 4/ 2 www.Emeraldfood.com 2004 50 Ian Gilula and Aaron Frank: "Rutile." 617980 Jenna Werner: Glass vase.
