An honor student at Birmingham
Covington School, Evie found it mean-
ingful, as part of her mitzvah projects,
to donate to Haven and to twin her bat
mitzvah with an Israeli child through
the Amit organization.

Laura Beth Cohen will celebrate her bat
mitzvah on Saturday, March 27, at
Temple Beth El. She is the daughter of
Pegg and Walter
Cohen and sister of
Nick and David.
Her grandparents
are Phyllis Cohen,
the late Arnold
Cohen and the late
Emilie and Walter
Patchak.
For her mitzvah
project, Laura has
volunteered for several years at the
Bloomfield Hills Nature Center as a
counselor for the Log Cabin Living
Camp, as well as regularly volunteering
at the Bloomfield Township Library
used book sales.

Matthew David Ellias, son of Lisa and
Frank Ellias, will be called to the Torah
as a bar mitzvah Saturday, March 27, at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek
Southfield. He is the younger brother
of Jared and Aaron. Proud grandmoth-
ers are Muriel Jacknow and Betty Ellias.
He is also the grandson of the late
David Jacknow, Harold Ellias and
Esther Ellias.
Matthew is an
honor student at
Warner Middle
School in
Farmington Hills.
Among his mitzvah
projects, he collected
Passover food for
Yad Ezra in Berkley
and volunteered at
the Shaarey Zedek religious school,
helping to set up and run a holiday
activity. To honor guests at his bar mitz-
vah, he is making a donation to a spe-
cial program at a food bank in Israel to
provide school lunches to underprivi-
leged children.

Jamie Kayla Fishman (Gittel Kayla) will
become a bat mitzvah at Shabbat servic-
es at Congregation Shaarey Zedek
Southfield Saturday, March 27. She is
the daughter of Leslie and Jefrey
Fishman and sister of Allie and Jeremy.
Sharing in her simchah will be proud
great-grandmother Sonia Blumenstein
and grandparents Gloria Weissler,
