Francine B. Turkish of Huntington
Woods was inducted into the Alpha
Omicron XI chapter of Phi Theta
Kappa at Oakland Community College-
Orchard Ridge, Farmington Hills. She is
majoring in culinary arts restaurant
management.

Beverly Betel of West Bloomfield was
named the best oral advocate at the
region III competition of the annual
National Moot Court held in Baltimore.
Her team from the University of
Pittsburgh Law School also captured the
Best Brief Award.

Erica Berg graduated Michigan State
University and completed an internship
at Entertainment Weekly in Los Angeles.
She is the daughter of Gene and
Mirilynn Zager and Allen Berg.

Raymond Rosenfeld of Bloomfield
Township, professor of political science
at Easterri Michigan University, received
a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture at
the University of Latvia. His topic will
be the "North American Economic
Development and Local Government
Restructuring EuroFaculty Program."

Katherine Potash, daughter of Morris
and Reesa Potash of
Birmingham, has been
selected as a student rep-
resentative to the
Birmingham Historic
District and Design
Review Commission for
the 2003-2004 term.
She is a senior at
Seaholm High School.

The Jewish Academy of Metropolitan
Detroit has received accreditation for the
2003-2004 school year from the North
Central Association Commission on
Accreditation and School Improvement.
Two students from the academy have
qualified as finalists in the annual
Michigan Mathematics Prize
Competition: senior Nathan Lada and
junior David Stiebel.

Eli A. Scherr of Uniland Corp. in
Farmington Hills was elected interim
president of the Detroit Friends of Bar-
Ilan University, based in Bloomfield
Township. He has been an officer and

director of the organization since 1993
and served-on the executive board from
1999. Scherr has been involved in the
university's local planned giving work.

Bowen Vernan of Grand Blanc, a 17-
year-old member of
Greenberg AZA, recent-
ly received BBYO's
Summer Leadership
Program Scholarship
from the Matthew
Doren Memorial Fund.

Teddie Olender of West Bloomfield, a
student at Detroit Country Day School
in Beverly Hills, has been accepted to
the People to People World Leadership
Forum. Olender will earn high school
credit while studying leadership and
exploring monuments and institutions
in Washington, D.C.

Stuart M. Israel of the Southfield law
firm of Martens, Ice, Klass, Legghio,
Israel and Gorchow PC, has had his
book, Taking and Defending Depositions,
published by the American Law
Institute-American Bar Association. His
practice focuses on labor and employ-
ment law, litigation and facilitative
mediation of civil cases.

Neal Barnett of Bloomfield Township
has been appointed to the Bloomfield
Township Board of Trustees. Barnett is
managing partner in the Bloomfield
Township law firm of Sills, Charboneau,
Fielder & Barnett PC. He has been a
member of the township's zoning board
of appeals and serves as vice chair.

League has appointed
Sharone Senk of South-
field as assistant director.
She was an account
coordinator at BBDO
Advertising in Troy and
joined ADL in 2003 as
a staff associate.

Max Olender, a student at Detroit
Country Day School
and Adat Shalom's Beth
Achim Religious School,
was presented with
Scouting's Arrow of
Light Award, the highest
award for achievement.

364. On Feb. 15, he represented Jewish
Boy Scouts in the Detroit area Scout
council's All Faith Service.
