These are the words of Al Qaida
from its main message board last
December, according to a CNN story
on Tuesday.
Al Qaida underestimated its clout.
All it took was one major incident.
Ten bombs on four trains — 201
dead so far — and say goodbye to
Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar's
Popular Party. Say hello to Jose Luis
Rodriguez Zapatero and the
Socialists.
Also, bid farewell to the 1,200
Spanish troops helping the United
States in Iraq.
I'm sure Al Qaida is as surprised as
the rest of the world to find out how
much clout it has in this new danger-
ous political arena.
"What we are dealing with at this
period in our history is a death cult
of extremist Islam that is encouraging
its followers to kill in the perverted
name of God," said David Horovitz,
editor and publisher of the Jerusalem
Report during a discussion with the
Jewish News. "We will lose this planet;
this will be the end of humanity if we
let that win. This is not some minor
political skirmish — this is a struggle
for the cause of maintaining life on
this planet."
Instead of running scared, the
Spanish government should offer
more troops to hunt down Osama
bin Laden in Afghanistan and
Pakistan.
Backing down in the middle of a
fight doesn't endear yourself to your
ally. And, if by chance, your ally

loses, what do you think happens
then?
Al Qaida doesn't have a beef with
Spain because it supported the
United States as much as it has a beef
with Spain because it isn't an Islamic
country that keeps burkas on its
women.
Al Qaida became empowered
because of what happened last week.
Expect to see it try to "influence"
elections in other countries using the
same means.
Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., told Ted
Koppel on ABC's Nightline on
Monday night he was disturbed by
the effect the terrorist bombings had
on the Spanish election results, and
warned Al Qaida not to try the same
thing here in November.
Politics aside, many argue that the
United States was wrong to go after
Iraq's Saddam Hussein, that getting
Saddam was like having dessert before
finishing your plate.
Maybe if we had kept our aim on
Osama, we would have more allies on
our side. But that's a moot point now
We've become inured to terrorist
acts since 9-11. In terms of violence
and terrorism on a grand scale, the
world seems more dangerous now,
but the rules of the playground still
apply.
Bully smacking you around? Tried
rationalizing or empathizing with him
to find out what you're doing to
make him so angry, but it only gets
you another beating?
Want to know how to get him to
stop?
Walk up to him and without hesita-
tion or warning, punch him in the
face as hard as you can.
Not strong or big enough to punch
him? Then kick him in the groin. If
he tries to get up, kick him again.
Keep kicking him until he gets your
message.
You can't talk sense to a bully who
isn't willing to listen, and anything
you do besides fighting back will only
make things tougher on yourself in
the long run.
We can't win unless the outrage is
directed at the perpetrators of terror-
ist acts, not the "root cause."
We'll have time to lay blame when
the war is won. P1
