He was the owner and proprietor of Fankfort Tackle Box for 25 years. He was also secretary of the Benzie Fishing Coalition, a life member of the Free and Accepted Masons and an active member of the Frankfort Lions Club. Mr. Lowenthal was awarded a pres- idential commendation and a Bronze Star for valor for service on Okinawa and Iwo Jima while serving during World War II as a member of the . Underwater Demolition Squad 12 of the U.S. Navy, a forerunner of the Navy Seals. He taught for 19 years in Detroit schools and served as assistant princi- pal of Berkley High School until his retirement in 1987. Mr. Lowenthal is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley; children, Debra, Barbara, Eric; brother and sis- ter-in-law, Robert and Doreen Lowenthal, sister, Shirley Braverman; grandchildren, Alexis, Matthew, Joseph, Louis, Lillian. He was the dear father of the late David. Services were held at the Benzonia Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes. Interment in Crystal Lake Township Cemetery North.
