THE ISSUE
Israel "went on trial" this week at
the International Court of Justice in
the Hague, Netherlands, over its
construction of a security barrier to
separate West Bank towns and vil-
lages from Israeli cities. Events in
Israel exposed the one-sided nature
of the situation.

BEHIND THE ISSUE
Several Israeli men, women and
children were killed and dozens
injured in a Palestinian homicide
bombing aboard a Jerusalem bus on
Sunday, Feb. 22. There were no
calls by the court, the U.N. and
others for the perpetrators of that
crime to be apprehended and tried.

Sound Of Music
In addition to being a place of wor-
ship, education and family program-
ming, Chaye Olam is also a place for
music — no surprise because Cantor
Dubov is the incoming president of
the Michigan Board of Cantors.
Each Sunday afternoon, the sounds
of the Kidz Klez Band of Michigan
and the Kidz Klez Band II can be
heard during practice sessions at
Chaye Olam.
Children's classes include parent-
infant music classes, and a monthly
family Shabbat dinner is highlighted
by a performance by the Chaye Olam
Children's Choir.
Outside the synagogue, Cantor
Dubov will co-conduct a three-part
series titled, "The Music of Passover,"
with Cantor Earl Berris at
Congregation B'nai Moshe.
With a philosophy of inclusion and
open doors, Burg said, "we are also
actively researching the requirements
for a kosher kitchen to be able to wel-
come those who observe practices of
keeping kosher.
"We are seeing an active, steady
growth at Chaye Olam," he said. "I
see new faces every week. There is
such a heimish (warm) family atmos-
phere here. We see the addition of a
rabbi as a natural step in the spiritual
evolution of the congregation." Li
