brings a message that represents her
generation.
"It actually transports you to the
intensity of living in Israel because it's so
fast-paced and so many things happen,"
she said.
"Just like living in Israel, you live in
ups-and-downs; it's very intense. You
can go to an amazing party, and the day
after, there's a terror attack. Your life can
change in a matter of seconds."
As she answered questions from the
audience, she urged participants to get
the word out.
"You have to be active — going to
Israel is very important, talking about
Israel is very important. It's about peo-
ple and that's something everyone has
forgotten."
Jonathan Goldberg, event organizer
and co-chair of the Hillel student orga-
nization's American Movement for
Israel, said bringing Mozes to show her
video and speak with students is part of
AMI's "creative approach" this semester.
"Israel is not just about the conflict
and we want people on campus to
know that — so one of the things we
decided to do from the get-go was to
bring in Grace because she's Israeli her-
self and can give a firsthand account of
what it's like to live there," said
Goldberg, a U-M sophomore from
Englewood, N.J.
"And the fact she's a model and an
actress involved in a different aspect of
Israeli society than people normally see
made bringing her in an extra draw."
He said her video emphasized the
complexities of the current situation
and the Israelis' desire for peace. It also
illustrated a dimension of Israel that
doesn't usually make it to headline
news.
"One of the biggest problems is that
when people open the front page of
[local and national newspapers], the
headlines read conflict and death and
suicide bombs — but there's a lot more
than that to Israel," he said. "And it's
important that people, both Jewish and
non-Jewish, see that Israel's a blooming
democracy and that regardless of the sit-
uation, life goes on."
Lauren Rapp, 18, a U-M freshman
from Bloomfield Hills and AMI mem-
ber, said the documentary confirmed
her desire to go to Israel and eased some
second thoughts about taking part in a
Birthright Israel trip this summer.
"For people who aren't Jewish, they
get to see how life in Israel is really simi-
lar to life in America," she said. "Yet for
people who are Jewish, it also shows
them that it's safe to go to Israel."
