B'nai Moshe Class Focuses On Purim Beth Shalom Sets Purim Carnival Rabbi Elliot Pachter, spiritual leader of B'nai Moshe, will teach a two-part study series, "Purim in the Talmud: What We Didn't Learn in Sunday School About Esther and Mordechai," noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, and Pachter Monday, March 1. Tuition is $7 per session. Students may register at the door. Kolel Moshe will present "Purim Subplots" on Monday, March 1, 7:30- 8:30 p.m., taught by Eric Grossman, head of Bible for the Jewish Academy of Metropolitan Detroit. Tuition is $7 at the door. Advance reservations are not required. Congregation Beth Shalom's annual Purim carnival will be held 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, March 7. Members of Beth Shalom Kadima (grades 6-8) are conducting their fourth annual mishloach manot sale, fulfilling the mitzvah and helping Kadima raise money for youth pro- gramming and charity. Dinner will be followed by a 7:30 p.m. Purim Shabbat service, read- ing of the megillah and a sing-along with the youth and junior .choirs. The evening will conclude with a Hamantashen Oneg Shabbat. Scholars Visit Bais Chabad Sara Tugman Bais Chabad Torah Center will host Rabbi Nachman and Joan Bernhard of Johannesburg, South Africa, as scholars in residence for the weekend of Feb. 27-29. Rabbi Nachman Bernhard is active in counseling, education, communal affairs and social issues. He has been an outspo- ken foe of Apartheid. Mrs. Joan Bernhard specializes in topics related to bereavement and to marriage. Rabbi Bernhard will speak on "The Battle Between the Sexes: Dare we Call a Truce?" on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. The Torah Center will provide Shabbat accommodations for those not within walking distance of the center.
