"I think it was a great experience to be with the seniors because we know we can all learn from each other," said fifth-grader Gilad Eisbruch. "We know that one day we will be seniors. The seniors talked to us about their past, mostly in WW II, and I learned a lot from that. It felt good to be around peo- ple who aren't usually a part of our daily lives." The seniors showed enthusiasm, interest and delight at being with the children," said Phyllis Herzig, JCC's director of senior programming. "It's been a most unusual day," Kiesler said. "It was refreshing to talk to young children," Mordis said. "It was quite enlightening. I never knew the kids did all that in school. They seem to really like their class- es!" said Sol Saginaw. "The kids were so polite, enjoy- able, friendly, nice and smart," said Sylvia Krohn. Several seniors wanted to visit again to share more of their stories with the children. Students at HDS study a new theme each Jewish month. The theme is introduced at the Rosh Chodesh (new month) celebration and continues until the next Rosh Chodesh celebration, when another theme is introduced. The theme for the current month of Shevat is tik- vah (hope). The themes are suggest- ed by BabagaNewz magazine for children, which also provides class- room materials, articles and activities to enhance the teaching of a theme in the classroom. ❑ 24111 CIVIC CENTER DRIVE SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN 48034 ba1'112M z's Our (Specially Michigan's LifeCare Community with Providence Hospital Call (248) 352-0208 for a personal tour and additional information TTY for Hearing Impaired (800) 649-3777 www.thetrowbridge.com udaica Art & ► ewel ry Fair at Orchard Lake Middle School 6000 Orchard Lake Road (between 15 & 16 Mile) apples & honey dish by Yaakov Greenvurcel Magen David necklace by Amitai Kav Sunday, February 8, 2004 10 a.m. 6 p.m. Detroit's leading exhibition of fine contemporary and traditional Judaica dreidels by Benny Dabbah • Over 40 acclaimed artists will be present • 29 Israeli artists, including KaKaDu • Diverse media & an array of fine jewelry mezzuzah by Yaakov Greenvurcel 2/ 6 2004 64 greggor by Avia Agayof Tickets - $6 no strollers please SPONSORED BY BAIS CHABAD TORAH CENTER law jp@aol.com li candlesticks by Lisa Slovis a
