Lindsey and Brett's sisters exchanged Lindsey's phone number without her permission. Lindsey canceled the first few dates with Brett, but when they finally met she later told her mother, "He's a keeper." Two and half years later, Brett, a builder at Finsilver/Friedman in Southfield, was on his knees proposing. But first he asked Lindsey's father, Robert Jacobs of Bloomfield Hills, for his permission. The couple married on June 14, 2002 before 320 guests at the Ritz-Carlton, Dearborn. "The night was filled with so much love you could feel it in the room," says Lindsey, who now is pregnant with their first child due on the first anniversary of their marriage. While the wedding was a big undertaking, Lindsey says, she enjoyed the time she spent planning it with her mother. It can get stressful because you want every- thing to be perfect, she admits. But she found ways to reduce the tension: Be organized, patient and remember that others are involved because of their love for you. "Keep a sense of humor," adds her mother, who says she strived to make the wedding a reflection of the bride and groom. Bottom line, mother and daughter agree — remember that the wedding is about sharing your relationship with family and friends, the people who love you.
