Have Wedding,
Will Travel

andy Singal was not going to miss seeing her
daughter Shifra marry Elie Schreiber — even
if she was confined to her hospital room on
the wedding day.
Suffering from a chronic illness and hospitalized for
seven months, Singal said, "I had really hoped all along
I would be out by then, but I was in the CCU and my
doctors wouldn't let me go."
That's when her friends and family went to work.
"They said they were going to find a way for me to be
a part of the wedding," said Singal of Oak Park. 'And
they did."
On the day of the wedding last year, her Providence
Hospital room in Southfield was converted into a pri-
vate, mini-wedding hall — complete with white and
gold balloons provided by Singal's nurses, who also
camouflaged medical equipment under a large, white
sheet.
"First my friends came to the hospital, and along
with the nurses, did my hair and makeup," she said.
"Then they helped me get dressed in a gown that was
made to match the ones worn by the others in the
bridal party."
