His mitzvah projects include Dor L'Dor
and the Friendship Circle.

David Leve, son of Wendy and Sam
Leve, celebrated his bar mitzvah at the
Birmingham Temple Friday, Jan. 9. His
grandparents Si anne Kaplan and Lewis
Kaplan and Roslyn and Jack Leve, and
his aunt Jody Kaplan shared in the cele-
bration.
David is a student
at Birmingham
Covington School in
Bloomfield Hills, and
his mitzvah/tzedakah
project was to work
with the Birmingham
Temple Sunday
school and to help
HAVEN sell pop at the Arts, Beats and
Eats festival.

Matthew Lane Sandles, son of Dr. Leslie
Capell and Norman Sandles and brother
of Ryan, will celebrate his bar mitzvah
Saturday, Jan. 17, at Adat Shalom
Synagogue. His grandparents are Sarah
and Dr. Morton
Sandles and Sheila
Capell. He is also the
grandchild of the late
Dr. Martin Capell.
Matthew, a seventh-
grade student, attends
Gibson School in
Redford. As part of
his mitzvah projects,
he donated money to and packaged food
for Yad Ezra in Berkley.

Ezra Garrison Simons will be called to

the Torah as a bar mitzvah on Saturday,
Jan. 17, at Congregation B'nai Moshe.
He is the son of Andrea and Ted Simons
and brother of Joseph. Proud grandpar-
ents are Helena and
Harvey Brody of
Skokie, Ill. He is also
the grandchild of the
late Ida and Jack
Simons of Southfield.
Ezra is an honor
student at Abbott
Middle School in
West Bloomfield. He
has packaged food at Detroit's Gleaners
food bank and at Yad Ezra in Berkley,
delivered meals on wheels and fed the

hungry at Fort Street Presbyterian
Church in Detroit.

Max Jacob Stern, son of Deborah and
Dr. Milton Stern, will read from the
Torah on the occasion of his bar mitz-
vah Friday, Jan. 16, at Temple Israel. He
is the brother of Noah
and Zachary. His
proud grandparents
are Louis Stern and
Shirley and David
Moscow.
Max attends
Orchard Lake Middle
School in West
Bloomfield, where he
is an honor student. As part of his mitz-
vah projects, he helped set up Art in the
Park in Birmingham and volunteered at
Temple Israel's Labor Day picnic.

Danielle Tessa Weinberg of Farmington
Hills will become a bat mitzvah at
Temple Shir Shalom Friday, Jan. 16.
Participating in the ceremony will be
her parents, Rhonda and Scott
Weinberg, and her brother Nick. Proud
grandparents are Alan
and Kathy Stevens of
Chicago, Sandra
Caplan of Myrtle
Beach, S.C., and
Audrey Weinberg of
Boca Raton, Fla. She
is also the grand-
daughter of the late
Ben Weinberg.
Danielle is an honor student at
Warner Middle School in Farmington
Hills. She has helped raise money for
the Bear Hug Foundation and is look-
ing forward to volunteering her time
with the Friendship Circle.

Ariella Jae Yedwab will read from the
Torah on the occasion of her bat mitz-
vah Saturday, Jan. 17, at Temple Israel.
She is the daughter of Wendy and Rabbi
Paul Yedwab and sister of Jesse and Zoe.

Ariella attends

Temple Israel, tutoring children in

The 2004 JCC Maccabi Games° will be held August 8-13 in
Columbus, OH, Greater Washington D.C. and August 15-20 in
Boston, MA for the following sports: boy's baseball boy's
basketball, girl's basketball, girls soccer, girl's softball, girl's
volleyball, inline hockey, bowling, dance, golf, table tennis,
tennis, track and field, and swimming. The games are for Jewish
teens who will be age 13-16 as of August 1, 2004.

MANDATORY INFORMATIONAL MEETING

Parents AND athletes should attend. Introduction of coaches,
site information, try out schedule and other important informa-
tion will be discussed.
