That would change, when word was
confirmed that the Beatles would be
returning for a U.S. summer tour.
Kane recalls that he was prodded by
WFUN management to write Epstein,
in hopes of securing an exclusive inter-
view for the radio station that would
coincide with a scheduled concert in
Jacksonville, Fla.
Epstein, perhaps misconstruing that
Kane also represented six other affiliate
stations listed on his letterhead and
business card, responded with an invi-
tation for Kane to travel with the
group for the entire 25-city, month-
long tour.
Awed by his unexpected good for-
tune and armed with a 20-pound reel:
to-reel tape recorder, Kane would be a
high-flying member of the Beatles offi-
cial entourage, with full and complete
access to the group on and offstage.
His reports and interviews would be
fed and syndicated to 45 radio stations
and highlights are heard on a bonus
CD that's packaged with the book.
From those tapes, Kane reveals the
close bonding that quickly developed
