JHAS FUNDRAISER AT MAX M. FISHER MUSIC CENTER OFFERS BAGELS, LOX AND "THE BEATLES" WITH THE DETROIT SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. BILL CARROLL Special to the Jewish News hat could be more fun for the family on a cold, wintry Sunday afternoon in January than "It's a Family Affair: Brunch With the Beatles"? This year's major fund-raiser for Jewish Home & Aging Services, sponsored by JHAS's auxiliary and benefactors, will help to improve the quality of life for Jewish older adults. The Jan. 25 event, at Detroit's new Max M. Fisher Music Center, will be a completely new experience for JHAS supporters and a new type of concert for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Titled "Classical Mystery Tour: A Tribute to the Beatles," it is a retro- spective of the Beatles' many hits that featured orches- tral accompaniment. In addition to the Sunday matinee performance, the concert, featuring Beatles look-alikes who starred in the original Broadway production of Beatlemania, also will be staged at Orchestra Hall Thursday through Saturday evenings, Jan. 22-24. Martin Hermann, who has led Beatles tributes with orchestras around the world, will conduct the DSO with Beatles impersonators Jim Owen (John Lennon), Tony Kishman (Paul McCartney), Tom Teeley (George Harrison) and Carmine Grippo (Ringo Starr). About 300-local Jewish supporters of JHAS are . expected to join regular DSO concert-goers for the Jan. 25 concert, according to Card Rosenberg, JHAS asso- ciate director, except that JHAS "will have a bountiful brunch first and enjoy all of the other trappings that have made 'It's a Family Affair' fundraisers huge suc- cesses in the past," she said. "We've had so much inter- est in this affair that five co-chairpersons are needed to plan it." They include Zina Kramer, Marty Begun and Jill Stone of Bloomfield Hills; Robin Eisenberg of Birmingham; and Howard Kowalsky of West Bloomfield. - MYSTERY TOUR on page 42 1/16 2004 37
