andi Goode doesn't think she's an
artist at the age of 8, but she puts
her knowledge to good use.
She and older sisters Jamie, 11, and Erin,
13 (too old for this year's contest), have
been entering the Jewish News Chanukah
Art Contest for years. And winning! Both
Randi and Jamie were honorable mention
winners in 2002 and both were selected
again this year..
Randi likes to draw at home and school
and took a weekly community education
art class last year at West Bloomfield High
School. She decided to use some of those
techniques in our contest.
"I kinda had an idea to make [her meno-
rah for the Jewish News cover] stained
glass," Randi said. "But then I had to think
how to do it." She chose tissue paper and
Mod Podge (a see-through glue) to make
the candles for the menorah, stickers for
the flames and an exclamation point for
the shammas candle.
Was Randi excited about winning and
beating her sister? Randi shyly admitted,
"Yes!"

An artist reception and award ceremo-
ny will be held at Shalom Street from
10:30 a.m. until noon Monday, Dec.
22. All 350 artists who entered the
contest and their families (that
means just about everybody!) are
invited.
For those who wish to get back
their artwork, all entries will be
available for pickup at the Jewish
News offices during business hours
(8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday
through Friday) from Jan. 5-Jan.
