hold its annual Chinese Auction at
7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7 at
Congregation Beth Shalom, 14601
W. Lincoln in Oak Park.
This year's black-tie optional
"Evening of Elegance" will offer an
auction preview at 6 p.m., including
a prime rib dinner for two for those
who purchase a coupon package of
at least $1,000. The $20 general
admission includes a buffet supper
and sweet table. Prizes include a spe-
cial raffle with a $10,000 cash
award.
Proceeds support the Zionist,
Orthodox Jewish day school.

Emanu-El and Rabbi Reuven Spolter
of Young Israel of Oak Park will
meet to discuss what unites and
divides Reform and Orthodox
Judaism at Temple Emanu-El's Both
Sides Series 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec.
14, at the temple.
The discussion will focus on the
role of women, the oral and written
Torah, and Jewish identity.
Marc Kruman, chair of the histo-
ry department at Wayne State
University, will moderate. The pro-
gram is free and open to the public.
Class Explores
Menorah Mystery
Kolel Moshe, the Lifelong Learning
Institute of Congregation B'nai
Moshe, will present "The Mystery of
the Menorah," a lecture by Eric
Grossman, head of Bible studies at
the Jewish Academy of Metropolitan
Detroit, 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8,
at the academy.
The program is open to the com-
munity; the charge is $7 per person

Adat Shalom Hosts
Dreidel Dance
The Adat Shalom Synagogue family
will celebrate Chanukah at a family
Dreidel Dance 6 p.m. Wednesday,
Dec. 17. Parents, grandparents and
children are welcome.
Following the kosher buffet sup-
per, there will be a Chanukah
songfest featuring the Adat Shalom
Youth Choir and dancing with a DJ.
In addition, there will be arts and
crafts projects and Chanukah cookie
decorating.
Dinners will be available for pur-
chase at $7 per person.
Chairing the evening are Norma

At the event, CHaZaKaH-Young-
at-Heart will mark its 14th anniver-
sary of senior programming.
