DOD leatunimuL ISIIAAREY ZEDEK STAFF PHOTOS BY ANGIE BAAN or 56 years, the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit has been home to the Jewish Parents Institute, a family-oriented Sunday school that presents a cultur- ally based Jewish education. Now, a grant from the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit has helped the school give something beautiful and lasting to the JCC. With the help of artists Gail Rosenbloom Kaplan and Dani Katsir, JPI students created a 4- by 8-foot mosaic centered on themes of mitzvot, scripture and the Jewish peo- ple as People of the Book. Appropriately enough, the mosaic is being installed on the wall next to the Henry and Delia Meyers Library, which is being constructed on the JCC's lower level. Although the project, financed by a DeRoy Testamentary Grant for Art in the schools, was mostly the work of the school's seventh-graders, most of the more than 60 children in the Sunday school participated in one way or other. The themes fit into the school's curriculum of tikkun olam (repairing the world), said Marilyn Wolfe, JPI educational director. "It makes a perfect entry to the library," she said. "I really want to leave something wonderful at the Jewish Center in return for all they've given us over the years." ❑ Beth Hayeled Kindergarten Information Night 2003 - 2004 Wednesday, December 10, 2003 7:00 PM Congregation Shaarey Zedek B'nai Israel 4200 Walnut Lake Rd West Bloomfield For more information and to rsup, please call Rena Weintraub, Director • at 248/681-4235 783150 JUDAIC FUN AND MORE!!!
