JUDITH LIEPAH SLOBIN, 94, of Southfield, died Nov. 25, 2003. She was born Uman, Russia (Ukraine). Her education was in Detroit public schools. She received her bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees from Wayne State University, then the City College of Detroit. Mrs. Slobin was a social worker in the city of Detroit, a Hebrew teacher with United Hebrew Schools and a Sunday school teacher at Congregation Shaarey Zedek. Mrs. Slobin also did volunteer work for Readers for the Blind at Wayne State University. In addition, she was a life member of Pioneer Women (Na'amat USA), American Jewish Congress, American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). She is survived by her children, Dan, Mark and Greta; grandchildren, Heida and Sean Shoemaker, Maya Slobin, Shem Slobin; great-grandchild, Hazel Shoemaker. She was the beloved wife for 65 years of the late Norval L. Slobin. Mr. Soskin is survived by his wife, Bernice Soskin; daughters and sons-in- law, Mara and Dr. Jerome Cooper, Debra and Dr. Arthur Freedman of Bloomfield Hills; Julie Soskin of Indiana; grandchildren, Amy and Leon Gavartin, Jennifer Ross, Jeffrey Siefman, Rebecca Siefman, Alan Cooper, Marla and Steven Worthing, Mark Freedman, Marcy Freedman, Michael and Mary Freedman; great- OBITS on page 134 died peacefully on November 26, 2003, after an 18-month battle with cancer. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 11, 1959. Margie graduated ii from Walsh College of Troy, Michigan with a Bachelor of Accountancy degree. She worked for the Jewish Welfare Federation of Detroit for two years, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas for ten years, and H.C.A. for seven years. Margie loved her work as an accountant and was well respected by her peers. Margie met Bob Weltman, her husband-to-be, in a chance meeting on a weekend trip from Detroit to Dallas. Margie & Bob were married on July 7, 1985. This happy union produced the joy of Margie's life, her two daughters Natalie and Julie. There will never be another Margie. She was full of energy and life, Although short in stature, she was a force to be reckoned with: capable, decisive, and determined. Margie was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Left behind to grieve their loss are her husband Bob and daughters Natalie and Julie of Richardson, her grandmother Mary Solomon, her parents Ann and Art Solomon, and her siblings: Tom (Andrea) Solomon, Jean Solomon, and Carol (Aaron) Sable, all of West Bloomfield, Michigan. Other survivors include her mother-in-law Marianne Lichtenstein of Dallas; father-in-law Louis Weltman of Dallas; siblings-in-law Wendy (George) Palmer of Dallas, Randy (Stephanie) Weltman of Mayfield Village, Ohio, Jerry (Sharon) Weltman of Baton Rouge, Andrea Lichtenstein of Dallas, Danny (Janice) Lichtenstein of Marietta, Georgia, and Lori (Trace) Ordiway of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Dr. Sherrin R. Helms and the entire staff (especially Nancy, Brooke, and Marie) at Texas Oncology for their support during Margie's illness. Funeral services were held at 3:30 pm, Friday, November 28, 2003 at Sparkman/Hillcrest, Northwest Hwy, Chapel in Dallas, Texas. Rabbi Jeffrey Leynor officiated. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park.
