Women's Care Fund.

The fund is open to all non-profit
organizations. Priorities are for programs
that service the health care and social
welfare needs of women and infants in
the Detroit Medical Center northwest
region; that focus on the health care of
vulnerable and at-risk populations; and
that address uninsured or underinsured
women and infants. Approximately
$50,000 will be available annually to
fund several small one-year grants.

Rabbi Elon

Yeshivat Akiva
Hosts Scholar

A renowned rabbi from Yeshivot
Hakotel in Jerusalem will be scholar in
residence at Yeshivat Akiva in Southfield
on Thursday, Dec. 4.
After meeting with students and staff,
Rabbi Mordechai (Motty) Elon will
appear at three public sessions: 7:30-
8:30 p.m. in Hebrew; 8:35 to 9:40 in
English; 9:45 to 10:30 at a rebbe's tish.
Cholent and refreshments will be
reserved. The cost is $5. For reservations,

Rabbi Elon is the Rav of the Baka
neighborhood in Jerusalem and a profes-
sor at Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan.
He leads two weekly shiurim (study ses-
sions) for 2,000 people. He is heard on
radio and talks about the Torah portion
on a weekly television show. He founded
the MiBereshit movement to bridge the
gap between the religious and secular
communities.

Women To Honor

The Anti-Defamation League's Women
of Achievement Award honors Michigan
women who exemplify the philosophy
of the Anti-Defamation League through
their efforts to promote and inspire
greater understanding among diverse
communities of metropolitan Detroit.
The nominations come from the pub-
lic. Deadline for nominations is Dec.

Mitzvah Day
Spreads Cheer

On Thursday, Dec. 25, volunteers are
invited for a few hours in the morning
to help at more than 40 social service
agencies as part of Federation Mitzvah
Day.
Meet for breakfast, orientation and
carpools, arranged at the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit,
6735 Telegraph Road in Bloomfield
Township.
A choice of more than 50 opportuni-
ties for mitzvot (good deeds) is available,
including visiting older adults, serving
holiday meals, cleaning and repairing the
interior of homes, delivering meals on
wheels.
Mitzvah Day chairs are Debbie Berger
and Jeremy Kahn.
Volunteers are asked to sign up on
Federation's website www.thisisfedera-
tion.org or via a card that many in the
community will receive by mail.
The reservation deadline is Monday,
Dec. 9. Volunteers will receive both con-
firmation and check- in time in the mail.
