Tzs the Season 13TH ANNUAL the end of the show they realize they've found something else: "They've found friendship and love, which is more important than any other goal that they could have achieved," Brooks said, "and kids are going to love that. High schools are going to love that." Brooks called his songs "jaunty and jolly." Among the new songs he devised for the stage are "Keep It Gay," in which effeminate designer/director Roger DeBris explains his philosophy; "Along Came Bialy," a tap dance done by crippled old ladies in metal walkers; "Haben Sie Gehort Das Deutsche Band," writ- ten in the style of a German beer-hall song and presented by neo-Nazi Franz Liebkind dressed as a Hitler youth; and "When You Got It, Flaunt It," the philosophy of the scantily dressed Ulla, the Swedish bombshell. Brooks ended his group interview by referring to his favorite cartoon from the New Yorker magazine. As he described the cartoon, "There's a man and a woman standing outside a doorway at the elevator. The doors open to the apartment and peo- ple in the apartment are staring at them, glowering. They just have angry faces and the woman is mortified, and the guy says, 'I don't know, when Mel Brooks does it he gets away with it."' "It's a wonderful cartoon," Brooks said. "I've got the original."
