FLORA HOFFMAN, 86, of Oak Park, died Nov. 14, 2003. She was a piano teacher. She was a member of the Young Israel Community of Metro Detroit, a member of the General Hospital, a member of the Primrose Benevolent Society, a supporter of Yeshiva Beth Yedudah and of the Jewish National Fund. Mrs. Hoffman is survived by her brother, Gerald Beckman of Livonia. She was the beloved wife of the late Max Hoffman; loving mother of the late Myra Hoffman._ Interment at Clover Hill Park Cemetery. He was a veteran of World War II and was a surgical nurse in the Pacific theater. He then devoted his life's work to the industrial container and barrel business. As an extension of his life and his beliefs, he created the Irving A. Rubin Jewish Community Trust for Rubin the Elderly. Profoundly affected by the toll of dementia on his two siblings, Mr. Rubin expressed a strong desire to lengthen and improve the lives of older adults by providing them with quality programs. Since 1997, Mr. Rubin's efforts have enabled many people to age in place and to outreach to the elderly who are living in care facilities. Mr. Rubin's commitment to the Jewish community also extended to Federation's Annual Campaign, of which he was a longtime supporter and volunteer. He was also a mem- ber of the Campaign Quarter Century Club, a former member of the Sinai Hospital Board and a founder of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of American. Mr. Rubin is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Sally Jo and Dr. Louis Soverinsky of Bloomfield Hills, Ellen and Dr. Ronny Schmier of Birmingham; grandchildren, Denise and Warren Kaplan, Dana and Joel Ishbia and Kate Schmier; great-grandchildren, Maddi and Ryan Ishbia, Annie Kaplan and companion of 14 years, Ricki Nederlander.
