Committee (AJC) honored
Hadas and Dennis Bernard
Nov. 6. The AJC Institute of
Human Relations Young Leadership
Award was presented to the Bernards at
the home of Barbara and Sheldon
Cohn in West Bloomfield.
"Leaders like the Bernards are not
selected, they emerge on their own.
They step up without being asked," said
Todd Mendel, AJC board member.
Barbara Nurenberg of JVS gave a
moving Jewish communal service trib-
ute before the award presentation. She
was followed by 10-year-old Joshua
Bernard's precocious words of thanks to
his parents.
Andrew Doctoroff, AJC board mem-
ber, introduced keynote speaker Nolan

Finley, editor of the Detroit News edito-
rial page. Finley received a standing ova-
tion for his strong, pro-Israel address on
Middle East foreign policy.
The evening co-chairs included
Debbie and Mike Berger, Renee and
Craig Erlich, Liz and Eric Groskind,
Joanie and John Hamburger, Lisa and
Hannan Lis, Leslie and Paul Magy,
Jeannie and Leo Maxbauer, Joshua
