Erin, an honor student at Orchard
Lake Middle School in West
Bloomfield, donated money to the
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as
part of her mitzvah project; she also
visited seniors at a West Bloomfield
nursing home.

Ariel Beth Oppenheim, daughter of
Carol and Philip Oppenheim and
sister of Zachary, will read from the
Torah on the occasion of her bat
mitzvah Friday, Nov. 7, at Temple
Israel. Sharing in the simchah will be
grandparents
Charlotte and
John Gaffield. She
is also the grand-
child of the late
Muriel and
Herbert
Oppenheim.
A student at
West Hills Middle
School in
Bloomfield Hills, Ariel worked with
her grandmother on a project to help
clean the Rouge River and she
donated funds to the Holocaust
Memorial Center in West Bloomfield
as part of her mitzvah project.

Andy Polen will be called to the
Torah as a bar mitzvah Saturday,
Nov. 8, at Temple Beth El. He is the
son of Cathy and Bernie Polen and
brother of Nikki. Proud grandpar-
ents are Elaine and
Herb Scott, Esther
Ruth and Merle
Polen. He is also
the grandchild of
the late Milton
Sorock.
Andy is a sev-
enth-grader at
Bloomfield Hills
Middle School.
His mitzvah projects include playing
bingo with JARC residents, working
at Safety Town and the Salvation
Army, and buying and delivering
gifts and clothes for a needy family
during the holiday season.

Hillary Ilyssa Shapiro, daughter of
Judi Shapiro and Jeffrey Shapiro, will
read from the Torah on Saturday,
Nov. 8, at Temple Israel as she cele-
brates her bat mitzvah. She is the sis-
ter of Ian. Her excited grandmother
