Hills, was select-

Michigan
Alliance for
Gifted Education
to receive the
Nicholas Green
Distinguished
Student Award
for 2002-2003.
Berman
He received a
$500 U.S. bond.
Awards are made to one student in
each state each school year.

Robert Sokol of West Bloomfield
has been inducted into the
Academy of Scholars at Wayne
State University in Detroit. He is a
distinguished professor in the
Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology, School of Medicine.

Tracie Goldman of West
Bloomfield has enrolled in the
Hornstein Program in Jewish
Communal Service at Brandeis
University in Waltham, Mass. She
is pursuing a master's degree to
prepare for a professional career in
the Jewish community. This year,
she is interning at Gann Academy-
New Jewish High School.

Among the honorees receiving
awards from the Society of St.
Vincent de Paul are Robert
Schostak, president and CEO of
Schostak Brothers tk Co., and
Rabbi Daniel Syme of Temple
Beth El. The awards honor indi-
viduals in the community who are
committed to the mission of the
society, to alleviate poverty and
discover poverty's root causes to
better fight them.

Michael H. Traison of West
Bloomfield was honored with a
Polish-American Heritage Award
from the Polish-American Heritage
Council for support of Detroit's
Polonia and promotion of Polish
heritage.

Nathan Mondry of Franklin won
a first-place award in the Concerto
Competition at Interlochen
Academy for the Arts in August.

He played the Hayden concerto in
D major on piano. Mondry is the
son of Gail and Ira Mondry and a
sixth-grade student at Detroit
Country Day School in Beverly
Hills.

Susan Sovel of West Bloomfield
has been named volunteer of the
year by the Detroit
Institute of Arts
Museum Shop
Committee. She
has spent 29 years
volunteering,
beginning as a
gallery aide. This
year, she is treasurer
of the committee.

Any baby will be a star in
one of these adorable

Distinguished Women of

During her recovery from breast
cancer, she joined a small group of
women promoting
hospice care in
Michigan, which is

is a two-time presi
dent of the group
and has served on
the board for 13
years.

Hiram A. Dorfman of Farmington

Hills was honored by the Marshall
Sub urban-Tikvah
Lodge of B'nai
B'rith Aug. 27 at its
annual dinner.
Dorfman was cited
for his longtime
dedication to the
Benard I,. Maas
Foundation and the
Michigan Jewish
Sports Foundation,
where he is a vice
president. He has been a Wnai
B'rith member for more than 50
years.
