and other non-governmental organiza-
tions that engage in anti-Israel and
anti-Semitic activity.
The foundation, which insists it
opposes such activity, gave millions of
dollars to Palestinian and other groups
that oppose the Jewish state.
Meanwhile, a State Department
official said the agency is reviewing the
foundation's support for these groups
for possible Justice Department action.
The foundation no longer has any tie
to the Ford Motor Company.

French Jewish
Students Sue

Paris/JTA — France's Union of Jewish
Students filed a lawsuit after nvo far-
left student groups described the organ-
ization as racist.
The far-left student associations at
Paris X University distributed a tract
accusing the Jewish student group of
racism and of supporting "the coloniza-
tion of Palestine and apartheid."
The International League against
Racism and Anti-Semitism and the
Movement Against Racism and for
Friendship Between Peoples issued"
statements defending Jewish students.

Twinning Nixed

Jerusalem/JTA — British Jewish
activists helped defeat a plan to twin
the city of Preston, England, with the
West Bank city of Nablus.
The Manchester Zionist Central
Council and the Jewish Representative
Council of Greater Manchester asked
town counselors if they "really wanted
to play host to people who teach their
children to hate Jews and Israelis, and
whose religious leaders actively promote
and encourage suicide bombers?"

Reform Movement
Honors Victim

New York/JTA — The U.S. Reform
movement is receiving hundreds of let-

ters and drawings honoring a young
victim of last month's Haifa bombing.
Assaf Shtier was slated to become a
bar mitzvah at Congregation Or
Hadash, a Reform temple, in Haifa
early next year, but he was killed in the
Oct. 4 bombing.
"I will think about all of you when I
do my bat mitzvah," wrote Erin
Bloodgood of Germantown, Md., in a
letter to Shtier's relatives.
The letters and drawings, the result
of an e-mail appeal launched by the
Reform movement, will be presented to
Shtier's family in Israel next month.
Shtier and several other family mem-
bers died in the bombing.

Jews Back
Charity Bill

Washington/JTA — Five Jewish groups
joined Christian groups in backing leg-
islation offering tax incentives for chari-
table contributions.
The Charity Assistance Recovery and
Empowerment bill would make it easi-
er to deduct charitable donations with-
out itemization and to donate from
retirement funds.
Signatories included the Agudath
Israel of America, the Orthodox Union,
the Jewish Council for Public Affairs,
the American Jewish Committee and
the Union of American Hebrew
Congregations.

Court Rejects
Moore Appeal

Washington/JTA — The Supreme
Court refused to hear an Alabama jus-
tice's appeal to display the Ten
Commandments in the state's judicial
building.
The decision .ends Judge Roy Moore's
legal options and means the Ten
Commandments monument will not
be permitted in the building. The issue
received nationwide attention over the
summer, as Christians protested in
front of the judicial building.
