Some find relief and comfort from alternative methods that include massage, acupuncture, nutritional and herbal supplements and relaxation techniques. The University of Michigan had one of the first programs in the country in complemen- tary and integrative health, which addresses these alternative methods. Now, thanks to a $2 million gift from Mark Kahn of Bloomfield Hills, the Gayle Halperin Kahn Professorship in Integrative Medicine will allow a professor to study and evaluate alternative, complementary and holistic heal- ing techniques. The professorship is named after Kahn's late wife, who died in February 2002 of brain can- cer.
