he Jewish Academy of Metropolitan Detroit soccer team found a
unique way to rally the troops at their Oct. 15 game against Walled
Lake Northern High School.
They shook their lulav (and etrog)!
One of the parents, Joseph Stuart, brought the Sukkot holiday items to the
game and gave the players a chance to fulfill the mitzvah and say the blessing.
While the ancient practice did not pull out a victory for the JAMD Jaguars, it
did help to narrow the score. Earlier in the season, WLN shut out JAMD 3-0.
On Oct. 15, JAMD lost 3-2.

His work has taken him from a

on Jewish studies, children of
Holocaust survivors and Israel-dias-
pora relations. In 1999, he led a
Jewish-Catholic pilgrimage to Israel
and Rome.
Dr. Benderoff, who died of cancer
in 1999, was a family physician
known for his endearing bedside
manner and devotion to his patients.
He embraced the role that humor
plays in lifting the human spirit in
the face of serious illness.
He founded the healing services at
Adat Shalom, where he was a mem-

His wife, Ann, his five children
and spouses and his 12 grandchil-
