on the campus of Oakland Community College in Building H
Orchard Lake Road at 1-696, Farmington Hills, Michigan

Featuring 130-juried artists in jewelry, clay, glass,
wood, photography, painting, fiber and more.

She began working on a script for an
adult show, and an agent friend got it to
a producer, who hired her to work on
The Shape of Things, what he hoped
would be a series for women.
Unable to establish that series, the
producer later hired Dart as a writer for
a series of musical shows featuring Cher,
and that job lasted three years. When
the program went off the air, she sub-
mitted ideas for television projects and
was asked to adapt a novel written by
Sidney Sheldon, who encouraged Dart
to try her own skills in print.
The plots of Dart's books take off
from her experiences. Themes relate to
events that make her "shake her head in
amazement."
Til the Real Thing Comes Along , about
a romance shared by a Jewish woman
and gentile man, refers to her own sec-
ond marriage, now in its 22nd year.
When I Fall in Love, about a comedy
writer with cerebral palsy, is based on a
fellow writer she admired. Show Business
about four actresses turning 50,
pays tribute to a quartet of close friends
that includes her.
"Writing has been a wonderful 'mom
career because I could work out of an
office in my house while raising two
children," says Dart, who became a
grandmother for the first time in
August. "I like working in the morning
because I come from a dream state, and
it's kind of nice to be able to stay in it
for several hours and not be jarred by
the outside world."
Dart's current writing project returns
her to early interests and makes her part
of a trio. Writing the book for a theatri-
cal musical, she is working with Mike
Stoller, half of the rock writing team of
Leiber and Stoller, and Artie Butler,
composer and arranger for many stars.

Poland in the 1930s to New York in the
1970s.
"I always was in love with songwriting
and believe that music elevates us," says
Dart, who has been active with United
Jewish Appeal and taught religious
school. "It makes people, even those
who are depressed, feel more positive."
Dart's writing projects reference real
people and events to place the stories in
the time frames for which they were
intended. Some Kind of Miracle, in a
showbiz setting, talks about singer Faith
Hill and the pre-political Arnold
Schwarzenegger.
As Dart travels around the country to
speak about writing and sign copies of
her books, she always remembers, with a
silent laugh, a man she met in a major
department store and how his comment
brought a new perspective to her serious
and moving subjects.
The man, unfamiliar with her name,
came over to ask about her books and
whether she had written any mysteries.
His preferences, he explained, were
adventure stories such as written by
Louis EAmour.
The author politely responded that
she writes about relationships.
"Those are mysteries," he com-
mented. ❑
