Kashruth Council Adds Supervisor Rabbi Israel Polter of Oak Park has joined the supervisory staff of the Metropolitan Kashruth Council of Michigan. A native of Antwerp, Belgium, Rabbi Polter grew up in Canada and received his rab- binical ordination from the Rabbinical Poker College of Canada in Montreal in 1960. He later became a shochet in Omaha, Neb. In 1962, Rabbi Polter moved with his family to Detroit, where he became a shochet at Detroit Veal & Lamb Co. In 1986, he joined the staff of the Cornbelt Beef, Veal and Lamb Meat Packing Co. He retired in 2001. Rabbi Polter will be a Kashruth Council plant inspector and supervi- sor of kosher food manufacture. The West Bloomfield based-MKC was founded by Rabbi Jack Goldman, administrator of the council. MSU Advisors Elect President Cindy Hughey, executive director of the Lester J. Morris Hillel Jewish Center at Michigan State University, has been elected president of the Michigan State University Religious Advisors Association for the 2003 school year. The MSU RAA is comprised of 40 members of diverse affiliations who serve the religious needs of stu- dents on campus. Volunteers Sought For Chaplaincy The Jewish Community Chaplaincy Program, which provides religious, cultural and spiritual support to frail Jewish older adults living in care facilities, will offer a series of four volunteer training sessions. Those attending all sessions will receive certificates as volunteer parachaplains. Kabbalah and Mysticism: Connecting G-d, Soul, World The first session will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the Fleis- chman Residence in West Bloom- field. The topic will be "How to Enhance the Jewish Care Experience: The Parachaplain's Role." Speakers will include Rabbi A. Irving Schnipper and Rabbi David Polter, chaplains of the Jewish Community Chaplaincy Program, Jewish Home and Aging Services; Carol Winter, manager of JHAS Guardianship Program; volunteer parachaplains Paul Lefkowitz, Libby Ben Moche and Natalie Sunshine.
