For many of those years, she worked alongside her late husband, Jason, who served as the tem- ple's organist and music director in Detroit and Bloomfield Township for 56 years. In 1988, the Ticktons were honored by the ternple for their more than 100 years of combined service. Mrs. Tickton, much beloved by the congrega- tion, died of heart failure on Oct. 4, 2003, in her Southfleld home. She was 89. Born in New York, the former 114amie Maldawsky came to the Detroit urea with her family at age 2. She received a master's degree in music from Wayne State University, where she met Professor Jason Tickton. He later became her academic advisor as well as her husband. She also taught music in the Detroit Public Schools. "My mother loved her students, her Judaism, and her music," said Mrs. Tickton's son, Dr. Stanley Tickton, who is a professor of mass com- munications and journalism at Norfolk State University in Virginia. "And she taught me how to cook, for which I'll be forever grateful."
