Unity Dinner

The Michigan Friends of the Israel
Defense Forces will host its annual
solidarity dinner on Thursday. Oct.
16, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek
Southfield. The dinner will honor
Rabbi Irwin Groner.
Ambassador Alon Pinkas will speak
as well as IDF officers and soldiers.
Co-honorary chairs are Marcia and
Eugene Applebaum, Lois and Judge
Avern Cohn, Ann Newman, Doreen
Hermelin, Malke and Gary Torgow.
Dinner chairs are Judge Amy
Hathaway-Groner and Judge David
Groner, Dr. Joel Groner, Shari and
Alon Kaufman, Lisa and Gary

Israel Bonds
Lauds Lockmans

Deena and Stuart Lockman will be
guests of honor at the Temple Beth El
State of Israel Bonds tribute dinner,
Thursday, Oct. 9, 6:30 p.m. at the
temple.
The Lockmans will receive the State
of Israel Declaration of Independence
Award: Guest speaker for the event
will be Nolan Finley, editorial page
editor of the Detroit News.
The Lockmans will be honored for
their active involvement in support of
many worthy causes for the commu-
nity, the temple and the State of
Israel.
Mrs. Lockman served as Temple
Beth El Sisterhood president from
1999 to 2000 and has been a member
of the board of trustees. She has held
leadership pbsitions with Greater
Detroit Chapter of Hadassah and is
Woman of the Year 2003.
Mr. Lockman is a partner in the
Detroit-based law firm of Honigman,
Miller, Schwartz and Cohn, where he
specializes in health care. He is a past
recipient of the President's Cup and
has served Temple Beth El for 14
years as an officer and chair of numer-
ous committees. He is the current
temple president.
