Stone saw his first concert in 1975. In the past four years, he has been to 25 Springsteen shows. Last week, Stone flew to D.C. for a Springsteen concert with some college friends. This week- end, he'll be at Comerica Park. "To me, the whole concert thing is about memories of stuff I did in high school and college," Stone said. "I get such joy out of going to the shows, being there and just having such a good time. Stone, a West Bloomfield resident, hasn't tabulated the total cost of his hobby, but he budgets for it. "It's my one vice," he said. "It's worth it.'' Interestingly, Stone even has it stipu- lated in his contract as a radio host with WDFN-AM 1130 sports radio that he gets a day off if Springsteen is perform- ing within 750 miles of Detroit. "I'd like to see Springstecn once a month for the rest of my life," Stone said. "It is a little obsessive, but after five or six weeks, I need a fix. It makes me feel good." Peltz, 35, remembers the days he was completely fixated on Springsteen. In " high school, he listened to Springsteen nonstop. He spent thousands of dollars on bootleg albums, tapes and other col- lectibles. He traded items. "It was all I thought about," he said. "I was fanatical. There are very few peo- ple who put on a live show like Springsteen does." In the last eight years, marriage, work and two children have helped Peltz, of Farmington Hills, to better balance his priorities. "There is no time to be fanati- cal about anything." Lately, he's spent more time taking in live Wiggles shows than listening to his own favorite tunes. So Peltz is really looking forward to Sunday's concert with friends. He'll be in the coveted "pit" area in front of the stage. Its not the same for me today as it was, but it is still great," Peltz said. "I'll always drop what I'm doing to see him when he's in town." 1 ! Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band perform 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at Comerica Park. $55-$75.
