Most of those who escaped were soon killed by Nazi sympathizers, but 50 made it to safety. It is a tale whose horror is rendered most concisely when Esther describes the arrival of a trainload of people at Sobibor They are quickly processed and executed. Spring zoo(' MEAN GIRLS by Maddee Sommers This new play, commissioned by JET, with the support of the Jewish Women's Foundation of Metropolitan Detroit, examines the issue of the girl bully. This program is targeted to upper ele- mentary and middle school girls and is inspired by recent studies and books such as Odd Girl Out: The Hidden Culture of Aggression In Girls by Rachel Simmons and Queenbees and Wannabes: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends and Other Realities of Adolescence by Rosalind Wiseman. Previous studies and even some school 'anti- bullying" programs offen address only the boy bully whose usual weapon is physical aggres- sion. New works show that girl bullies are much more insidious, using high tech tools such as three-way calling and internet IM, to spread rumors, encourage exclusion, manipu- late and inflict psychological pain on their vic- tim, Mean Girls will present your students with realistic characters they can recognize and provide an excellent springboard for further discussion of the problem and possible solu- tions. Please call the JET office 248.788.2900 for details. $595 per performance. 11410111111M INNIIIIIIIIIK These workshops use a variety of gentle, drama-based activities to encourage the mutual sharing of insight, speculation and stories concerning issues of diversity and democracy.
