decorated from atop the shoulders of her
father, Daniel, of Bloomfield Township.
"It made me think about Israel," she
said. "I know how I feel about the ter-
rorism that took place in America and I
think about Israelis and how they must
feel every day." ❑
REMEMBERING 9-11 from page 53
moment of silence at 8:46 a.m.,
the exact time that American
Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the
north tower of the World Trade
Center in New York City. Five
candles were lit at the times that
planes crashed into the World
Trade Center, the Pentagon in
suburban Washington, a field in
'Pennsylvania and the collapse of
the south tower of the World
Trade Center. The service ended
with a shofar blowing and
moment of silence at 10:28 a.m.,
the time the north tower col-
lapsed.
"We in the Jewish community
have a special obligation to keep
alive the flame of memory. From
our history and from our present
day realities, we know all too well
what it means to be the object of
hatred," said David Gad-Harf,
executive director of the Jewish
Community Council.
"We know all too well how
terrorism can rip apart a family
and rip apart a community. But
we also know that tragedy and
hardship can unify us. And we
know without that sense of inter-
dependence and shared destiny,
we are more likely to be defeat-
ed." l I
