"The main thing was trying to
bring a community event to town,"
said Plotnik, who was delighted to
look up Old North Woodward
Avenue to see "hundreds of people
walking down the hill [to the mar-
ket] — It looked like Chicago or
New York."
Plotnik is delighted the event is
attracting so many residents to

Birmingham's Gallery
District, north of Maple
Road.
Lori Karbal has a store a
few doors south of the mar-
ket. On Sept. 7, Plotnik
asked Karbal if she could use
the store's lavatory "and the
people just followed us into
the building."
Lori Karbal EtAl sells cos-
metics, bath products, active
wear, candles and rrieri's prod-
ucts, and is normally open
from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday.
Karbal stayed open through-
out the :morning Sept.
after the
impromptu opening, "and I did an
incredible amount of business." Last
Sunday, Karbal opened her store at
10 a.m.
