Return To Roots
Trip Discussed

Rabbi Sherwin Wine will discuss a
recent trip he and 22 others took to
Poland, Lithuania, Germany and
Austria. "Return To Our Roots" will
be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at
Congregation B'nai-Moshe.
The event is being held under the
sponsorship of the Jewish
Genealogical Society of Michigan
and the Jewish Historical Society of
Michigan. Members are free; guests

Clover Hill Sets
Remembrance

The annual Time of Remembrance
observance will be held at Clover
Hill Park cemetery in Birmingham
at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, to
enable families to visit the cemetery
prior to the High Holidays.
Rabbi Joseph Krakoff, Rabbi
Jonathan. Berkun and Cantor Chaim
Najman will conduct a special cere-
mony in the cemetery chapel.

Study Series
On Shoah

Congregation B'nai Moshe's Kolel
Moshe Institute for Lifelong
Learning, in partnership with the
Holocaust Education Coalition
(HEC), has announced its major fall
offering, a 10-week adult study
series "The Holocaust: Roots and
Branches."
The course will meet 7-9 p.m.
Mondays, starting Sept. 15 and is
open to the community.
Tuition is $75, with a tuition dis-
count for members of B'nai Moshe
and the HEC board. High school
students, college students and Jewish
educators (teachers who serve on the
staff of local synagogues, Jewish day
schools and other Jewish educational
institutions) are invited to enroll at
no charge.
The HEC is a consortium of 14
Christian and Jewish organizations
throughout metropolitan Detroit
dedicated to further Holocaust edu-
cation.

"The Holocaust: Roots and
Branches" will be taught by commu-
nity educator Barry V Levine.
Serving as curriculum consultant
and occasional guest lecturer will be
Professor Sidney Bolkosky of the
University of Michigan-Dearborn.
The course will meet at B'nai
Moshe. Students may register in
advance or on the first night of class.
People considering registration may
audit the first session at no charge.

Torah Center
Tells Offerings

Rabbi Elimelech Silberberg will offer
two classes on "The High Holidays:
The Mystical Dimension" 10:30
a.m. Sundays, Sept. 14 and 21 at the
Sara Tugman Bais Chabad Torah
Center.
The classes will be repeated 8:30
p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 24 and Oct.
6. The public is invited; no previous
knowledge is required.
Chaya Sarah Silberberg will give a
hands-on challah baking class 7:30-
9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at
the Torah Center. Reservations are
required. A $7 fee includes all mate-
rials for making two large challahs.

Conversion Class
Begins On Tuesday

The Conversion Institute sponsored
by the Michigan Branch of the
Rabbinical Assembly will have its
first session of the season 7-9 p.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Congregation
Beth Ahm in West Bloomfield.
Local Conservative rabbis will
teach classes for individuals interest-
ed in embracing Judaism. Each week
for 24 weeks, the students will study
Hebrew for one hour and then the
Bible, prayer book, Jewish ritual
and thought the second hour.
Students who complete the course
are then eligible for conversion by
one of the rabbis in the Rabbinical
Assembly.
