House projects piling up? You are not alone. More and more people
are finding it harder than ever to keep up on their home repair and
maintenance tasks, and it's no wonder why. With more hours required at
the workplace, increasing demands on parents, and the intrusive
technology of cell phones, pagers, laptops, palm pilots, voice mail and
email consuming an ever-increasing portion of the day, the amount of
time available for many Americans to accomplish tasks around the house
is at an all-time low.

One of the fastest growing of these home repair companies in Oakland
County is Mr. Handyman of Bloomfield/Birmingham, a franchise compa-
ny locally owned by Todd Mailloux. What may have propelled Mr.
Handyman ahead of so many others in this booming industry is
Mailloux's commitment to three key ideas: "Prompt, Safe, and Reliable."
Mailloux maintains, "We don't just say these words, they truly guide us in
what we do." These concepts zero in on what home repair customers
need, but often don't get from general contractors, specialists, and some-
times other handymen. When it comes to being prompt, Mailloux
asserts, "it's very important to us that people can rely on us to be there
when we say we're going to be there. Not calling and communicating is
not acceptable. There is always a customer service representative in our
office in Birmingham to make sure that the customer's needs are met."

Safety is another big concern in the home repair industry. "We're in
people's homes, we have to be able to be trusted," Mailloux insists.
"Mr. Handyman customers feel comfortable when the service technician
arrives at their homes wearing a uniform labeled with the company
name, driving a clearly marked van that is identical to all the others in the
fleet. The vans are stocked with all the tools needed for just about any
job." "We present an air of professionalism," explains Mailloux, "and
there's security in that." "Each service technician is bonded, insured and

is an employee of the company, not a subcontractor. He has had a
thorough background check and is a skilled professional with proven
expertise."

When it comes to reliability, beyond promptness people expect quality.
Mr. Handyman guarantees satisfaction, which is not always the case in
this industry. "We stand behind our work," Mailloux assures. "We
currently have a crew of four technicians that each have at least 20 years
experience in the industry, so their skill level is extremely high."

Fall and winter projects are looming for so many people as Mr.
Handyman handles requests for gutter cleaning, water damage repair,
hanging of holiday decorations and several other winter preparation
projects. In the spring season when homeowners are recovering from
winter's havoc, they need assistance fixing mailboxes, repairing and
installing screens, doors and windows, cleaning out basements,
organizing garages, hauling debris to the dump, and doing light carpen-
try and interior painting.

Of course, customer requests to handle year-round projects, such as
fixing leaky faucets, installing door locks, drywall repair, tile repair,
grouting, caulking and repairing shower doors, continue to keep the
company busy. "We'll take care of your honey-do list to free up your
time for more important things." Mr. Handyman's mission statement,
displayed on the company website, www. Mrhandyman.com would
prompt anybody to seriously consider enlisting the company's help
around their house: "Life is made up of precious moments.
Let us give you back a few."
