BEHIND THE ISSUE
Mahmoud Abbas' resignation as
Palestinian prime minister was engi-
neered by Yasser Arafat, who
wouldn't share political pbwer or
control over the security forces with
Abbas, nor allow a confrontation
with the terrorist organizations. In
the past three years, there are sever-
al thousand dead Palestinians, many
more injured, and their economy is
in ruins. In a real democracy, Arafat
and his cronies would be tested by
public demonstrations, a free press
and the electorate.

thinks having a table at the open

I'm willing to work within the existing
